Thousands of small and mid-size companies use QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Enterprise. But what options does an interior design firm have when they have outgrown the limitations of these accounting programs? We have seen some interior design firms move to NetSuite, but for the reasons we discuss in this blog post, NetSuite probably isn’t a good fit for interior design firms.
One of our clients, who has used QuickBooks Enterprise for many years, researched the available options and concluded that Sage Intacct was their best option. This was partly because this client has several companies: a home construction business, an interior design firm, a waste management company, among others. Intacct makes it possible to manage multiple companies in a way that is far superior to QuickBooks. According to my accountant, comparing QuickBooks to Intacct is like comparing apples to oranges. Intacct offers far more robust accounting features than QuickBooks.
It is worth mentioning that our client has two full-time CPAs, so their evaluation of available accounting software options was probably more rigorous than what most firms can manage.
We are currently working with our client to have DesignSmart fully integrated with Intacct by November, so there is no drama when they go live on January 1, 2027.
